Meet our Ms Oktoberfest 2016
Cari Fritz Kessing!
August 20, 2016 was It was a beautiful night full of glitz, glamour and Gemütlichkeit! Designed to build anticipation of our Oktoberfest to the community and media, we had a fantastic show of Alpine Express entertainment, Auerhahn Schuhplattler dancers and a tough choice among 10 lovely ladies vying to represent our biggest fundraiser of the year.
2nd runner up Emily, 1st runner up Chelsea, and Ms Oktoberfest 2016 Cari Fritz Kessing
Our panel of judges were selected for their great interest and respect for our club, perfectly poised to make our search as fair as possible; Sabrina Schmid of Florida Sun Magazine (Florida’s leading German language and culture publication), Lee Neujahr of S&H Brands for Hofbrau Bier (our biggest festival sponsor), Seigi Constantine of the original Oakland Park Oktoberfest, and Ralf Bahr, our own Oktoberfest Master of Ceremonies. All 10 contestants submitted an essay which the judges read and scored in advance as part of a larger evaluation process to gauge their interest in German culture and potential to serve as goodwill ambassador, attracting newcomers to our festival and club.
Just for fun, the audience had the chance to vote for their favorite contestant and selected Kristy Rowe, who received special recognition as “People’s Choice” and a beautiful bouquet. The lovely Emily Busse came in as second runner up, and has celebrated her birthday every year at our Oktoberfest with family and friends since she was a young girl. Emily finds the club a “home away from home” as her German heritage is celebrated in her daily life.

First runner up is Chelsea Raleigh, who is half German and grew up with the traditions of her heritage. Chelsea eagerly anticipates Oktoberfest each year and is enthused about representing the German culture on behalf of the club as she is a PR and marketing specialist.
Our new Ms Oktoberfest is the lovely Cari Fritz Kessing, whose Oma and Opa came from Germany to Florida and instilled timeless German traditions and values in their family. Cari studied German language in high school and college, but earned her PhD in Immunology. Cari had a wonderful time at the pageant and is looking forward to serving as Ms Oktoberfest at our festival and future events. Her husband even came to the pageant in his lederhosen!
Meet Ms Oktoberfest and her court every day at our Oktoberfest, where you can find them interacting with the crowd, singing with the band, and spreading club Gemütlichkeit!
